"MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND BRAKES BECAME MANUAL. WHEN I CHECKED ON THE CODES (C1478, C1313 & C1480) I FOUND THAT THERE ARE QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM, THAT THE REPAIR COST IS RIDICULOUS AT APPROXIMATELY $5000. AND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE A RECALL BY FORD!"

"WENT TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES TO NOT HIT AN ANIMAL AND YELLOW ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATES,RED BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES, AND "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE APPEARED AND THE CAR JUST SLID. ONCE DRIVING YOUR ABS SYSTEM IS DEACTIVATED CAUSING THE CAR TO JUST SLIDE WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKES. AN OBDI CODE READER INDICATES C1478, C1479, AND C1480. FORD RECOMMENDS CHANGING HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT COSTING OVER 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS. WHE"

"Regen Brakes Disabled light came on dash board after starting. ABS light and Check Braking System also. Took to two local mechanics. Checked sensors brake fluid etc. Advised to take to dealership. These lights are not ALWAYS on. However lately they have been. When illuminated the brakes are very weak and if going over 40 mph very difficult to stop. Nearly impossible to drive on the interstate. Ford dealership said it"

Diagnostic Tips
- Use a scan tool that can access ABS and stability-control modules
- Compare steering angle, wheel-speed, and brake pressure live data while driving slowly
- Repair wiring, grounds, or connector problems found during wiggle testing
- Perform required calibration after replacing sensors or chassis-control components
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- β Replacing a control module before checking battery voltage, grounds, and connectors.
- β Using a generic scanner that cannot read ABS, body, steering, or network modules for this code family.
- β Clearing the code without recording freeze-frame data and companion codes first.
